IPA planning for the IPY is being supported by a grant from the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS). Administrative assistance is provided by the IPA Secretariat at the University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS) with a grant from the Research Council of Norway. Initial results of these projects were presented in the summer 2008 at the Ninth International Conference on Permafrost in Fairbanks Alaska, and the 33^rd International Geological Congress in Oslo, Norway.
